The factory of UNIBASE SDN BHD is based in Gelang Patah town ship, Johor state. The company is based in Sukudai, Johor. The Nepalese, Bangladeshis, Indonesian and Burmese migrant workers are working in that factory. The factory product is trowel ling works for segment, segment ready, segment casting process etc. the company originally contracted to pay Burmese workers daily wage but the really payment on a piece rate basis. But the workers are not receiving the full rate per piece. Deductions are made before they receive their specified pay per piece. They have to work from 8 am to 10 pm every day. Workers can not get medical leave when they are sick. If they have an accident at the work place, they don’t receive proper treatment. If workers make mistakes, they receive deductions from their salary. The company is not using their pay slips.

The workers built their huts by them self and stay there. The company deducted RM 600 since they arrived at the factory on September 2008 until December 2008. The workers discussed their problem with their section leader Mr. Samsudin, regarding the injustice of wages and other rights but there was no action. On 7 April 2009, the section leader suspended 9 Burmese workers.

The workers contacted to the labour department of BCM to help them with their problem. On 16 April 2009, BCM (Ko Harun) went to Johor for detail about their situation. The next day, 9 Burmese workers and Ko Harun went to the labour office which is under the human resource ministry and the workers reported to labour Officer Nur Afeza Binti Jaafar the abuses and unlawful deductions. The labour office said they would investigate their problem. After that, someone rang Ko Harun hand phone and threatened him and hand up. In the evening, the company management contacted Ko Harun and asked about the workers demands and negotiations. We attach the entire workers name, passport numbers and signatures.
